The Seventh Seal: Trumpets

1 When the Lamb broke the ^aseventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw ^bthe seven angels who stand before God, and seven ^ctrumpets were given to them.

3 ^dAnother angel came and stood at the ^ealtar, holding a ^fgolden censer; and much ^gincense was given to him, so that he might ^{▼▼Lit give}add it to the ⁱprayers of all the ^{▼▼Lit holy ones; i.e., God’s people}saints on the ^kgolden altar which was before the throne. 4 And ^lthe smoke of the incense ascended from the angel’s hand with the prayers of the ^{▼▼See note 2 v 3}saints before God. 5 Then the angel ^{▼▼Lit has taken}took the ^{▼▼I.e., container to burn incense}censer and ^pfilled it with the fire of the altar, and ^qhurled it to the earth; and there were ^rpeals of thunder and sounds, and flashes of lightning and an ^searthquake.

6 ^tAnd the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them.

7 The first sounded, and there was ^uhail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled to the earth; and ^va third of the earth was burned up, and ^wa third of the ^xtrees were burned up, and all the green ^ygrass was burned up.

8 The second angel sounded, and something like a great ^zmountain burning with fire was hurled into the sea; and ^aaa third of the ^absea became blood, 9 and ^aca third of the creatures which were in the sea ^{▼▼Lit the ones having}and had life, died; and a third of the ^aeships were destroyed.

10 The third angel sounded, and a great star ^affell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a ^agthird of the rivers and on the ^ahsprings of waters. 11 The star is named Wormwood; and a ^aithird of the waters became ^ajwormwood, and many people died from the waters because they were made bitter.

12 The fourth angel sounded, and a ^akthird of the ^alsun, a third of the ^ammoon, and a ^anthird of the ^aostars were struck, so that a ^apthird of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a ^aqthird of it, and the night in the same way.

13 Then I looked, and I heard ^{▼▼Lit one eagle}an eagle flying in ^asmidheaven, saying with a loud voice, “ ^atWoe, woe, woe to ^authose who live on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the ^avthree angels who are about to sound!”
